Transport hubs drive you crazy? ICT applications can reassure people planning a journey, by taking accessibility into account

The Regional Council of Pays de la Loire (Nantes Region, France) implemented a web-basedjourney planner in 2006: www.destineo.fr. It provides information on multi-modal journeysby public transport (i.e. bus, coach, tramway, train and boat shuttles), aeroplane and walking.18 local authorities are partners of Destineo.By taking part in the EU funded INTERREG IVB Improving Connectivity and MobilityAccess (ICMA) project, the Region was able to make journeys for disabled people easier.Regional Council of Pays de la Loire is about to pilot a new service on www.destineo.fr. Itwill help passengers, particularly disabled passengers, to plan their journeys through thetransport network. The portal , for which the conception has been entrusted to the GeographicInformation System expert MobiGIS, is focused on two regional railway stations: Saumur andLa Baule. In this paper, the goals, the methodology and the results of the portal are presented.
