Using chrome oxide green, alumina fines and monoclinic zirconia (m-ZrO2) as starting materials, fused Cr2O3-Al2O3-ZrO2 clinker was prepared and incorporated into high chrome brick.Phase composition and microstructure of the fused clinker were investigated by means of XRD,SEM and EDS.Modulus of elasticity was detected by a solid material dynamic performance tester.Differing from fused chrome with coarse grains and porous microstructure, fused Cr2O3-Al2O3-ZrO2 is of dense structure.Solid solution with sizes around 100μm is formed by Cr2O3 and Al2O3 components.Monoclinic ZrO2 grains are gathered between the boundaries.Incorporation of such fused clinker in high chrome brick can remarkably improve thermal shock resistance, thanks to its role in reducing modulus of elasticity.
