For improvement of service life of steel ladle purging plug especially for special steel metallurgy,effects of cement and ZrO2 content on the physical properties,hot strength and thermal shock resistance of alumina-spinel castables have been investigated in this paper.The results show that cold modulus of rupture (MOR) and hot MOR of specimens slightly decrease with increase of cement content,and noticeably decrease with increase of ZrO2 content.Apparent porosity and permanent linear change of castables with ZrO2 fine addition noticeably increase.Thermal shock resistance of the castables is improved with increase of cement content,and slightly changed with ZrO2 additions.Physical properties,hot MOR and thermal shock resistance of alumina-spinel castables have greatly influenced by different cement and ZrO2 content,and are correlated to phase compositions and microstructure of the matrixes.
