The effect on slag resistance of bauxite-based castables by adding sialon was investigated by static crucible method.The results indicate that corrosion resistance of bauxite-based castables was reduced slightly and penetration resistance improved noticeably when sialon was added by testing inreducing atmosphere.The reason may be attributed to that the porosity of castables increased with addition of sialon and it provided channels for slag corrosion.However,the formation of glass phase containing nitrogen from sialon and the slag led to increasing the viscosity of the slag,which can prevent the slag from further penetration.
