Consider the birth and death process with birth rates {λn} and death rates {μn}, where μ0=0, let Tk,j be the expected time to reach state j, starting at state k, 0 < k < j , we get the calculational method of E (Tk,j) and Var(Tk,j).Using the main results, we can estimate E(Tk,j) with different parameters.
