The brain cannot be accessed without passage across the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB). New delivery systems are needed to efficiently target the CNS. In this study we are assessing the uptake of albumin nanoparticles into the brain capillary endothelial cell line, hCMEC/D3 by electron microscopy. Albumin nanoparticles targeted with recombinant human Apo E3 by their ability to be rapidly taken up and transcytosed by the BBB represent a promising delivery system for the CNS.
