Hydrophobically associating polyacrylamide was prepared by the inverse emulsion polymerization with a polymerizable cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant of dimethyloctane (2-acrylamidopropyl)ammoniumbromide(DHAB). Results showed that the solution apparent viscosity ofa the copolymers increased with the DHAB content. With increasing NaCl content, the solution apparent viscosity of the copolymers firstly decreased and then increased.
