UNDERGRADUATE TECHTREK: A BLUEPRINT FOR HIGH-IMPACT, INTEGRATIVE, CROSS-DISCIPLINARY FIELD LEARNING

This paper describes a blueprint that can be leveraged for creating an integrative classroom / field learning hybrid experience. Undergraduate TechTrek is described as a model for executing the blueprint, however many alternative forms can leverage the approach and techniques described. Undergraduate TechTrek combines a rigorous classroom learning experience with a week-long field study to Silicon Valley. Classroom study leverages lecture and team-oriented, seminar learning formats. The field study consists of master classes, case studies, and Q&A sessions by senior executives and managers onsite at their firms. The resulting program is a demanding, integrated course that goes far beyond what faculty alone can offer in the classroom.
