Korea Space Launch Vehicle-I (KSLV-I) is a national undertaking to develop launch capabilities to deliver satellites of a 100 kg-class into a low earth orbit(300 x 1,500 km). The vehicle comprises two stages, using liquid fuel kerosene on the first stage. In this paper, we will describe the upper stage test equipment (UTE) for KSLV-I system. In the past rocket program of Korea such as Korea Sounding Rocket-Ill (KSR-III), we used each EGSE of onboard systems for testing the electrical function. In this case a lot of equipments and manpower were always necessary for the system test of KSR-III. In this condition we consumed a lot of time and effort inevitably for the system test. We'd like to reduce these inconveniences in the program of KSLV-I. So the UTE was created for the remote system test of upper stage of KSLV-I. The UTE has integral functions of each onboard GSE based on umbilical interface between upper stage and UTE. The UTE comprises a remote control computer for operator, two power supplies for providing external power to the upper stage, and finally a PXI-platformed control system which contains a real-time main controller, serial communication board, analog/discrete I/O control boards. All equipments are remotely controlled by using LAN communication. The UTE has following functions via umbilical cable interface with upper stage of KSLV-I; two external power supplies, roughly 60 command outputs and 30 signal acquisitions for discrete and analog interface, CS-l(control system-l of the first stage of KSLV-I) simulation interface and seven rs-422 serial communications for the onboard systems. The UTE has following strong points; saving time and equipments for the system test, an easy movement, flexibility of function extension, convenient test and so on. In this paper we will describe the concept of design, configuration and functions of UTE and discuss its better points than past test method.
