The T5HO lamp has penetrated traditional core markets associated with HID lighting such as Industrial and Warehouse applications. As this new lamp made inroads into these markets - some of the shortcomings associated with fluorescent lamps have become more evident. In particular, fluorescent lamp lumen output is very dependent upon the ambient temperature surrounding the lamp. As temperature increases beyond a certain point, lumen output drops significantly - requiring periodic over-lighting or acceptance of lower light levels. This paper discusses the details and impact of this loss mechanism and presents a unique, passive solution to minimize these losses - resulting in greater energy savings and higher maintained illumination levels.
