Insulin and C-peptide serum levels following oral administration of insulin based on superporous hydrogel polymers in healthy volunteers

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the oralabsorption of insulin from gastrointestinal tract, usingnovel oral drug delivery system based on superporousehydrogel (SPH) and SPH composite (SPHC) incombination with insulin. An increase in serum insulinlevel was demonstrated in all subjects that usedpolymer plus insulin. Serum C - peptide levels weresuppressed while exogenous insulin was absorbed atthe same time.Insulin in combination with novel delivery agents, SPH&SPHC, given orally was partially absorbed through theGI tract in a biologically active form.
