On the basis of the mature, highly reliable, light weight, low cost and expendable TR60 Turbojet Engine Family in the 350 to 600daN class, after the development of the TR40, a smaller engine in the 350daN class, which is now fully qualified and has demonstrated its mastering of the All Electric Engine, MICROTURBO has recently concluded a Single Spool Bypass Turbojet engine demonstration program for Missiles and UAVs. This successful background experience paved the way for the development of the new generation of compact Bypass Turbojet Engine for Missiles and small UAVs (i.e. engine external diameter < 15 inches), based on Twin Spool Bypass architecture. The choice of stepping into a Twin Spool Bypass concept was made to comply with the ever increasing performance (thrust, fuel consumption, size, weight) requirements expressed by the French Ministry of Defense, and to allow the development of a whole new family of engines around a common HP Core. Engine component architectures were selected for the most compact engine outer diameter. The program development of this family has started at the beginning of 2007 with the support of the French Ministry of Defense, with two main phases: design and test of the HP Core in line with the acquisition of the associated technologies; design and test of a complete demonstrator engine. This paper presents the background of existing MICROTURBO turbojet engines (TR60 and TR40), the key achievements of the Single Spool Bypass Turbojet Engine Demonstrator, and the first year program of the new engine family.
