A Review of Non-Federal Hydropower Dams Removed Under FERC's Regulatory Authority

Dam removal has become a subject of great public interest in recent years as many dams inAmerica are becoming old and no longer serve their original purpose. The dams at FERC'snon-federal hydropower projects are no exception. This review looks at eleven non-federalhydropower dams removed between 1963 and 1999. The dams discussed are arrangedchronologically by year of removal in a format that includes basic information about the dam,removal, and lessons learned. Dam removals of FERC-regulated hydropower projects are rareevents.
