In order to analyze the combustion process of a diesel simulation system (i.e., a process with a fuel lean premixed flame used to establish a high pressure and high temperature environment into which diesel fuel is injected) a single-zone heat release model including the effects of heat transfe and mass leakage is developed and tested in this paper. A mass leaking rate calculation and the effects of mass leakage on heat release are examined. The effects of approximations for the specific heat capacity ratio, gamma, on heat release rate are also described in the paper. Applications of the model to the diesel simulation process are discussed.
