Iron-containing carbon adsorbents were prepared by impregnation of activated carbons (AC) with iron salt solutions followed by heat treatment of the samples in flowing hydrogen at temperatures up to 700°C. Four carbon supports were used for samples preparation: oxidized A(O), B(O) carbons and A, B carbons without surface oxygen groups (table 1). Iron was introduced in carbon pores as iron (Ⅲ) nitrate or iron(Ⅲ) chloride ( AC+Fe(NO_3)_3, and AC+FeCl_3 samples with iron content of C_(Fe)=15 mg/cm~3) or as iron(Ⅲ) oxalate (AC+Fe_2(C_2O_4 )_3 samples with C_(Fe)=15- 110 mg/cm~3). Sizes and composition of carbon-supported iron particles as well as porous texture of carbon matrix were studied by means of Mossbauer spectroscopy, XRD and adsorption methods.
