Optical fiber can exhibit attenuation losses in an optical fiber cable for many reasons. The attenuation losses could be induced by microbending and the microbending can be caused by a delamination at the glass/ primary interface. Several researchers have pointed out that delaminations could be caused by the properties of coating materials. In this study, a method is proposed for measuring the relaxation behavior for Secondary UV curable resin using a Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA). By this method the measured relaxation modulus can provide an estimation of radial stress at the glass/ primary interface and improve the accuracy of the estimation. Three types of UV curable resins were examined by the method. The results show that the relaxation modulus at room temperature is related to the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the UV curable resin. On the other hand, there is no clear correlation between Young's modulus of the resins and the relaxation moduli.
