Improving the sugar recovery by reducing the non cane material and increasing the purity of the juice is a viable option for a longer crushing period. To improve the purity an investigation was carried out to assess the non-cane materials supplied along with the green cane daily at cane yard. Random samples were collected from the vehicles at the unloading point and analyzed for the non-cane materials like tops, dry trash, dead cane, suckers and binders. This study showed that reducing the percentage of non-cane materials to improved the sugar recovery with a substantial savings on raw material cost and sugar.
