Mechanical Stress Influence on Electric Double Layer Capacitor Performance

The reliability of electric double layer capacitors is an important issue for wide scale introduction to the automotive market. The life time of electric double layer capacitors has already been demonstrated under standard laboratory conditions. However, the long-term mechanical stress caused by severe ambient vehicle conditions requires a deeper investigation into these effects on the performance of electric double layer capacitors. The paper presents an evaluation procedure and applies it to various manufacturers' electric double layer capacitors (ELDC).
