Ultra Low Power Loss Concept For AC/DC Power Supplies

In this paper a new controllable burst mode solution is proposed to achieve the extreme low power consumption and support a stable output voltage with very low ripple. With this solution, SMPS PWM controller is able to wake up immediately and the output voltage will not be drop a lot during the transition from standby mode to normal mode in case of sudden load jump. This feature has been implemented in the new SMPS current mode PWM controller of Infineon. The control method is presented and experimental results are demonstrated for its performance.
