Evaluation of Estrogenicity on Ozonation By-Products

To evaluate of estrogenicity during ozonation, semi-batch ozonationrnwere conducted using solutions of 17 β-estradiol, nonylphenol andrnbisphenol A, and secondary effluent. E2 equivalent concentration indexrnwas introduced based on the estrogenicity intensity measured withrnEstrogen Competition Binding Assay (ECB Assay). The importance ofrnevaluation of estrogenicity by ECB Assay was shown by the differencernin removal efficiencies between E2 equivalent concentration and thernestrogenic compound itself. Through this research, ozonation wasrnshown to be promised method and that 90% of E2 equivalentrnconcentration was reduced with ozone consumption per initial TOC ofrn2.0mgO3/mgC for the water containing estrogenic compounds.
