Public Wireless LAN(WLAN) service is emerging as a killer application at hot spot areas such as Universities, hotels, around subway stations and airport terminals etc. However it requires a lot of IP addresses to provide end-to-end communication, and the shortage of IPv4 address hinders the deployment of this killer applications. In this paper we propose a cost-effective deployment strategy of public WLAN services using IPv6 technology for the fast spread. Our idea is based on the DSTM(Dual Stack Transition Mechanism) approach, but simplifies it a lot by defining a mini-DSTM node and mini-DNS bridge. We show the scenario for DNS query and data transmission. Finally, we consider killer applications in the future on the public WLAN environment and conclude.
