Consumer Initiatives or Producer Initiatives in Proxy Cache

Nowadays, the World Wide Web provides virtually all-imaginable information. Because of the ease of access the number of users is constantly increasing and, therefore, the number of connections made to the servers. Caching can be used to maintain the performance, despite of the increasing number of client demands. Several factors affect the performance of the applied caching technique. The factors are related both to the characteristics of the Web systems and the management strategies used by the proxy-cache architecture. To obtain better performance, must consider who will take the initiative for the actions to be carried out in the cache, the consumer or the producer. This work classifies the aspects of importance for proxy caching, pointing out to the best convenient strategy to use in given circumstances (consumer initiatives or producer initiatives cache transactions), in order to improve system performance.
