Relationship Quality as Antecedents of Knowledge Sharing Within Knowledge-intensive Firms

Knowledge sharing is very important process of knowledge management. In early knowledge management stage, people emphasis on the research of how IT systems influence the knowledge management performance. Also IT system can make people easy to share and transfer knowledge, but it can not increase people's willingness of knowledge sharing. In this study, we focus on which variables stimulate individual's knowledge sharing intention in a social context. Basing on the social capital theory and intention model, we develop a new model to explain how relationship quality affects individuals' knowledge sharing intention. Research results from the field survey of 620 managers and technologists from knowledge-intensive organizations in South China show that resources embedded in social network (i.e., trust, reciprocity) are positive stimulate knowledge sharing intention. Unexpected, the social interaction (i.e., depth of relation) is negatively influence knowledge sharing intention.
