NUCOR HERTFORD MEDIUM SLAB CASTER AND PLATE MILL COMPLEX, USA

In October 2000 the Hertford plant of Nucor Steel cast its first heat, and the widest slabs in the world were successfully roiled to produce prime quality plates. In the following 4 months the prime quality share of total production reached values of about 98%, in what was a constant and very fast improvement of plant performance. For almost 1 year the production grew continuously, regardless of the slowing down in market trends, and production records were broken one after the other. In the second year of operation the tuning continued and quality reached the top value of 99.5%. Monthly production exceeded 100,000t. The caster and plate mill were supplied by Danieli, and a team of Danieli engineers worked with the customer from the very beginning in a joint effort towards efficiency and better performances.
