The self-adaptive Voronoi grid technology applicable to the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method was studied. Basing on the theory of Dirichlet tessellation and Voronoi diagram, the Voronoi grid provides a peculiar mapping arithmetic from particles to Voronoi cells which is fit for the statistical characteristic of the DSMC method and the Voronoi cell is defined by its tessellated point. The proposed Voronoi grid technology can match complex geometric boundaries and support self-adaptive DSMC calculations as a universal and efficient grid technology in the DSMC method. A two-dimensional numerical DSMC simulation of a MEMS-based micro-nozzle flow was carried out to validate the self-adaptive Voronoi grid technology applicable to the DSMC method.
