Recent Advances on Design Theory of CFST Arch Bridges

Concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) arch bridges have been developing rapidly in China since 1990. Extensive research on design calculation theory of CFST arch bridges has been carried out. In this paper, a review of the research is given including experimental and analytical work. The general static response of CFST arch bridges is discussed with an emphasis on the nonlinear behaviors and ultimate load-carrying capacity. The review also includes research work that has been carried out for dynamic characteristics and response to seismic loads of CFST arch bridges. Finally the need for further research is identified.
