This paper contains the kinetic description of the ballistic lifetime of a 27 mm ammunition DM63. This kinetics is applied to the temperature measurements which were recorded on the frigate Hessen between Jan 15 and Sept 16, 2008. The temperature was measured at the weapon (naval light gun [MLG]) and in the climatized ammunition storage units (each on starboard and on port board side of the frigate). The results clearly show that the temperature load during the whole mission is negligible. Thus the ammunition shall be replaced for ballistic reasons after a non-stop mission of around 30 years. In addition, data of ammunition from a comparable out of area mission, tested at WTD91, Meppen, is evaluated. The results did not reveal any deterioration of the ballistic performance of the ammunition resulting from the thermal stress during this six-month UNIFIL mission.
