The supernatant recirculation from the methanogenic phase to the hydrogen producing phase was used to improve the gas-producing performance of two phase anaerobic fermentation producing hydrogen and methane.The manure sludge was used as the substrate,the variable recirculation rates of 0,0.056,0.33,0.66 were researched in this paper.The conclusion indicated that there was worse phase separation as the supernatant recirculation was carried out for the hydrogen producing phase,while the operational stability of the methanogenic phase was improved.There was no significant correlation between the RR and the gas production rate.When the hydraulic retention time of 4d and the recirculation rate of 0.056 the total biogas production rate reached 2.053 L/d·L with the average gas contents of H2 10.65%,CH4 52.36%,CO2 36.99%.The gas is in line with biological hydrogen - methane gas mixture composition,which can be used as the fuel of the engine or internal combustion engines.
