摘要

The paper describes relevant operating experiences with the hvo Southern African HVDC schemes. Various technical factors are discussed, these ranging from overall performance, equipment reliability, line insulation and telecommunication. It is shown that the extreme length of the two schemes and harsh physical environment have created unique operational difficulties and challenges. The paper accordingly serves as a special case study in HVDC system performance.1 GENERALCahora Bassa - Apollo, located in Mozambique and South Africa; and Inga-Kolwezi (former Inga-Shaba), in the Democratic Republic of Congo are presently the only HVDC systems in Africa, and in the Southern African Power Pool. The schemes were built to transmit bulk power from isolated hydroelectric power stations to major load centers over distances of 1414 km and 1700 km, respectively.
