In the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay project, a 2m-thick jet grout layer was constructed below the formation level using both the SWING and double-tube jet grouting methods. The SWING method induced a small (9 mm) inward movement and the double-tube method caused an outward movement of up to 45 mm. The measured wall deflections were presented and compared. Back-analysis using the finite element method was conducted to model the construction of the jet grout slab. Results indicate that it is possible to simulate such construction and that it is important to take these movements into consideration in the design of the temporary work.
