Enhancing of new technologies both in mechanics andin electronics as well is more and more driving todevelop 'small missions', mainly related to scientificapplications.AGILE is the first Small Scientific Mission of ItalianSpace Agency (ASI), dedicated to high-energyastrophysics that is planned to be operative within2006. The payload is composed by innovativeinstruments both for scientific interests and fortechnological aspects:· a Gamma-Ray Imaging Detector consisting of aSilicon tracker gamma-ray detector (ST), aCesium-Iodide Mini-calorimeter (MCAL) and anAnticoicidence system made of plastic scintillators· a X-ray detector named Super-AGILE (SA)The development philosophy of the payload is basedon a Proto-flight approach in accordance to a smallsatellite mission and takes into account themanufacturing of a Simplified Qualification Model(SEM) in order to demonstrate the soundness of themechanical design and the feasibility of the selectedsolutions mainly regarding the technological aspects.
