Multiplexed Fibre Bragg Grating Sensor System for Structural Integrity Monitoring in Large Civil Engineering Applications

A multi-channel fibre Bragg grating system has been developed and field deployed as part of a condition maintenance programme for large civil engineering structures for real time integrity monitoring demonstrated on a new steel road bridge in Norway. The programme is discussed, some preliminary results shown and comparisons are made with the performance of conventional gauges.
