The European medium resolution satellite datarnENVISAT/MERIS were available in 2002 while thernChinese medium resolution spectrometer data with 5rnbands in 250m spatial resolution and 15 bands in 1000mrnonboard Fengyun 3 series satellites became a new datarnsource at the end of the year 2008. Under the frameworkrnof Dragon program 3, both teams demonstrated thernutilization of medium resolution satellite data in croprnmonitoring. The Chinese team has made efforts tornimprove the processing of the Chinese Mediumrnresolution satellite data (MERSI) in order to promote itsrnapplications in crop monitoring. The European team hasrnchecked and evaluated the processed FY3A/3B MERSIrndata and inspiring findings have found in terms of thernimaging quality and the performance of retrieving LAIrnand GAI etc. The Chinese team has mapped the winterrnwheat area in North China Plain in the growing seasonrnfrom 2009 to 2014 with the finely processed FY3ArnMERSI 250m data. The LAI retrieval algorithm with thernFY3 MERSI data was developed based on the in-siturndata and other satellite products. The participation ofrnyoung scientists is critical for the implementation of thernproject. 4 Chinese master students were involving in thisrnproject and the Chinese team hosted a European youngrnmaster student to carry out research in China in thernspring of 2014. Both research teams are looking forwardrnto successful and productive achievements for thisrnDragon project and new deep cooperation in Dragon 4.
