The College of New Jersey has long offered web based teaching solutions through the department of Instructional Technology Services, and we have had much success in getting the faculty interested in technology over the past few years. Unfortunately, most of the products available were disparate and did not "play well" with their fellow applications. This model eventually brought forth an interest by the faculty to begin investigating integrated course management packages for a campus wide solution to the problem. At the request of the Provost, Instructional Technology services spearheaded a committee to investigate both in house and commercial software solutions. Two campus wide surveys were conducted ― one for students and one for faculty ― and those results were used to justify the selection of an in house application for campus wide use. This paper and presentation will focus on the process of selecting a course management package and the issues surrounding such an investment. It will also detail how TCNJ developed an in house application that has been customized through input gathered directly from faculty and students, our two biggest stakeholders in Instructional Technology.
