Business case and technical requirements for IPTV STBs

In this contribution the technical and commercial aspects of Set-Top Boxes (STB) for IPTV systems are analysed. First CAPEX and OPEX structure for an IPTV system will be examined and the influence of the STB on CAPEX evaluated. A cost break down of a typical IPTV STB will be outlined in order to understand the cost of STBs and components required. In addition to the commercial aspects, the operator's STB requirements both from STB performance and competence of STB provider will be discussed.
