Pipeline integrity management plan against corrosion failures – Evaluation of pipeline corrosion mechanisms

The knowledge of pipeline corrosion processes is the first step to maintain efficient the pipeline corrosion integrity management program, assuring a maintenance plan optimized and predictive. This step is essential to make a basic criterion in order to define the better corrective maintenance action in the corrosion failure. Only with this knowledge it is possible to develop an integrity way of maintenance and inspection data analyses. Therefore, this routine will detect some places susceptibility to each corrosion mechanism that can occur at the pipeline. These places will be indicated to inspection group in order to fix the main failures. Then, the aim of this work is to discuss the corrosion mechanisms possible to occurs in pipelines in order to describe the methodology of integrity evaluating of pipeline corrosion.
