In the area of automotive engineering, testing of actual vehicles in various operating conditions during transient maneuvers is a costly and time-consuming stage of any vehicle design. However, the use of virtual proving grounds for simulation of full vehicles helps to alleviate the high cost physically testing a vehicle before mass production.rnThis paper presents a study where a multibody dynamics model of a 2003 Ford Expedition is created for the purpose of evaluating performance and behavior in vehicle dynamics simulations. By using a dynamic model, rollover analysis and yaw stability can be analyzed. In addition to that, the vehicle model can also be used to integrate different controllers for different subsystems of the vehicle such as steering, brakes, and power-train. Preliminary simulation results are presented for proof of concept of the model.
