A real world shading simulation including four different shadow patterns had been done on Crystalline Silicon and Thin Film solar Photovoltaic (PV) modules. Performance data was recorded and a comparison was made. How different shadow patterns would result in a diverse performance output, and how partial shading environments could create potential safety issues were identified. In addition, the effect of one shaded module was characterized to the rest of series connected string. In conclusion, a few possible suggestions were also indicated in minimizing the impact of shading on PV systems.
