摘要

Results are in from a survey developed by the US Technical Advisory Group to ISO/TC 176 quantifying the experiences of 227 US organizations implementing ISO 9001:2000, most having made the transition from ISO 9000:1994. This article compares the results from the survey by size of organization and by type of organization. There are relatively few strong differences between manufacturers and non-manufacturers in their responses to the ISO 9001:2000 survey. A higher percentage of non-manufacturers used Customer Training as an implementation aid, checked off that objectives were not-measurable, checked off collection and analysis of data as a non-conformity, and documented cost-savings from implementing ISO 9001:2000 than manufacturers. A higher percentage of the manufacturers checked off "Gap Analysis by Organization" as a way the company assessed the status of quality management system prior to implementation of ISO 9001:2000 and identified more effective management reviews as a benefit to compliance. In comparison with smaller companies, a higher percentage of larger companies: 1. Demonstrated compliance in the past with ISO 9001:1994 registration. 2. Demonstrated compliance in the past using some ISO standard. 3. Used Gap Analysis by organization to assess the status of quality management system prior to implementing ISO 9001:2000. 4. Provided Transition training as an implementation aid. 5. Checked off "Continual Improvement Process" and "Competency Requirements" as requiring more extensive corrective action (and not "Objectives Not Measurable"). 6. Required more time for the audits.
