OBJECTIVE: To study the pathological changes of the atheromatous abdominal aorta of rabbits afterrnhigh-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment.rnMETHODS: After being subdivided into two groups, the research group and the control group,rnexperimental rabbits were exposed to HIFU (0.8 MHz/10000 W cm-2). HE staining and special elasticrnfibers staining were used to study the changes of morphology and ultrastructure of vascula endothelialrncells and smooth muscle cells at the very day, the fifth day and the tenth day respectively after beingrnexposed to HIFU.rnTRESULTST: After HIFU treatment, the vascula endothelial cells of abdominal aorta were damaged, orrneven eliminated. And derangement, breakage and solution took place to elastic fibers.rnTCONCLUSIONT: In both groups, coagulation necrosis in rabbit abdominal aorta occurred to somerndegree. And there was no statistical difference between the research group and the control group. Sorndid that in the individual subgroups.
