摘要

An ideal acellular matrix should be able to provide right biological and physiological environment to ensure homologous cell and extra cellular matrix (ECM) distribution. It should also provide the right size and morphology of neo-tissue required. Collagen ranks as the most widely used matrix material for the purpose of tissue engineering in the dermis. Due to their advantageous biological properties, collagen based scaffolds are under extensive investigations and used as matrices for tissue engineering. The advantages are that natural matrix materials mimic natural ECM structure and composition; emulate native stimulating effects of ECM on cells and allows, inconporation of growth factors and other matrix proteins to further enhance cell functions. ECM has an important role in providing optimal chemical and structural environment for tissue growth and regeneration.
