Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) as well as Microtunnelling (MT) established themselves as efficientrnand reliable methods for the installation of pipelines underneath obstacles. Both technologies have theirrnspecific advantages and disadvantages and therewith their particular suitability for individual constructionrnprojects.rnThe following comparison will set off, under which basic conditions each technology shows its individualrnstrengths and weaknesses. This provides planners and users dealing with such special undergroundrnengineering an additional tool helping them in a better and more secure initial decision – the first settingrnof course – in a valuation of a new project.rnLater on, the specific optimisation for each method has to be continuously realised in order to reach thernbest possible efficiency in the planning and execution of the project.
