Cables of all types are often arranged to be installed in close proximity, including traction current carrying 3rd rail, LV and HV power cables, and telecommunication and signaling cables, in a railway system. This paper presents an analysis of the induced voltages in the victim cables under both normal and transient/fault conditions amongst cables. Approaches for the analysis of induced voltages for EMC aspects are adapted from ITU-T. Considerations of induced voltages in terms of maximum parallel length among cables for railway systems design in cable management are presented. Shielding effectiveness of metallic trunking as one of the mitigation measures is also discussed in this paper.
