Thin films of complex oxides show great promise for a wide range of functional properties, including magnetism and multiferroic behaviour, which can be induced and tuned by a careful choice of parameters such as epitaxial strain, stoichiometry, sample geometry (e.g. through artificial heterostructures), and applied electric and magnetic fields.
