摘要

Synthetic waters were evaluated using a new methods to determine background hydroxyl radicalrn(OH) scavenging. Methylene blue (MB) was used as an OH probe compound in a spectrometrybasedrnsystem to accurately assess OH scavenging in waters containing synthetic equivalents ofrnlow to moderate TOC and alkalinity. In these proof of concept experiments, calculatedrnscavenging agreed to within 5% of theoretically calculated scavenging factors. When optimized,rnthe device will provide a rapid method of accurate OH background scavenging, which can berneasily incorporated into simple models to predict destruction of emerging contaminants in water.
