BEARING CAPACITY AND SETTLEMENT BEHAVIORS OF STIFFENED DEEP CEMENT MIXED PILE

A series of investigations and field monitoring were conducted to study the bearing capacity and settlement behaviour of stiffened deep cement mixed (SDCM) pile. Twenty four full-scale piles were tested to study the bearing behaviour of single pile. The test results indicated that the SDCM piles exhibited similar bearing behavior to bored and cast-in-place concrete pile. Due to the addition of the stiffer core, the SDCM piles perform higher bearing capacity. To study the deformation behaviour of SDCM pile, settlement observation of a building over five years was conducted, which enabled a comparison to be made between predicted and observed settlements. Based on the findings of experimental investigations and analysis results of settlement observation, a practical design method is developed to predict the bearing capacity and settlement of SDCM pile.
