CREATIVE DESIGN METHODOLOGY AND THE SIT METHOD

The paper presents SIT (Structured Inventive Thinking) - arnstructured method for enhancing creative problem solving inrnengineering design. The method is a three step procedure:rnproblem reformulation, general search strategy selection, and anrnapplication of idea provoking techniques. The most innovativernpart of the method is the problem reformulation stage. Therngiven problem is modified through the application ofrnobjectively defined and empirically tested set of sufficientrnconditions for creative solutions. The paper describes thernsufficient conditions and the empirical study that demonstratesrntheir appropriateness. Then the whole SIT mechanism isrnpresented with illustrative examples.
