Demonstrating professionalism through competency assessment

In order to be successful in business, it is essential that we can inspire our clients with confidence. This confidence must exist at both the organisational and individual level. As practising systems engineers, it is essential that we are able to demonstrate our professionalism in everything that we do and, hence, inspire confidence in our colleagues and clients.rnThis paper looks at the issue of professionalism through competency assessment. The INCOSE competencies framework is used as an example of a good best-practice model and an assessment process, known as UCAM, is introduced and discussed.rnA real-life industrial case study taken from the rail industry is presented which discusses the practical business benefits of effective competency assessment and some actual results are presented. Finally, some general comments and observations are included regarding the INCOSE competency framework.
