Modern traffic management systems are designed to perform single measures as well as complexrnstrategies for the improvement of traffic flow and minimisation of traffic congestions. Anrnimportant precondition for management is the knowledge about actual traffic state. Thereforerndetection systems are used which in most cases have an independent and fixed communicationrninfrastructure.rnNow with a new approach, multiple challenges for improved traffic detection can be met. Thernpresented self-sufficient system allows operation with a minimum of communication costsrnand flexible usage at different acquisition locations. The system is equipped with standardisedrninterfaces for future peripheral equipment. Additionally, a camera system was designed usingrnone of these interfaces.
