Adaptive Interenterprise Knowledge Management Systems

Transfer and reuse of codified knowledge has been one of the most challenging functions of enterprise knowledge management in the past, and it still is today. Numerous off-the-shelf software products, f.e. for document management, storage and retrieval have become available meanwhile. At the same time, the sourcing of knowledge in and over the Internet is boosting. Consequently, interenterprise knowledge management attracts growing interest.rnThe concept of interenterprise knowledge sharing and use, though, brings about the general issue of interoperability of respective systems. Interenterprise operability appears to be of high complexity with regard to technology, organisation, and application. It poses many challenges to supporting ICT solutions. This paper is intended to contribute reflections about the engineering of such systems. It deals with complexity, operability and adaptivity questions, discusses architectural design approaches as known from component based software engineering and suggests their extension by the concept of dynamic configuration pattern.
